This week has been a huge mess of up and down and really hard, and blessings (the calm after the storm).
I really wanted to give up this week...without any reason. It was just hard. Sometimes Satan just makes me think that we're not accomplishing anything I guess, but I went through the motions anyway and I came out on top. Although going through the motions is bad, doing it because it's right is a good way to just keep moving.
I don't want to be anywhere else in the world. Not even with you three and Georgie - and that's saying something.
Something funny that I might have already told you is that...I'M THE TALLEST IN OUR HOUSE! ha ha ha! Take that tall people, who is the tall one now? ME! ;)
OH BTW....we haven't had hot water for two weeks. Everyone goes on vacanza in August and our landlord turned off his water (we live in a 'duplex) and that turned off our hot water. Va beh, it's actually nice after a long day---but my face has never been so bad because we don't have hot water to scrub the dirt out. I'm going to start microwave or boiling water though to wash my face.

It's been pretty cool lately. It rains like once every two weeks. Some days it's almost unbearably hot, and hopefully we have lessons those days but not always. It's ok though, my new skirts really help! :)

During weekly planning, Sorella Hoppe has me conduct the session now and at the end we always talk about goals right? Well, something that I want to do is to act with this phrase.
I did all that I could do.....(this is the phrase)...'and I did a lot more'. I want to be that kind of person.
It also connects with the Strength, Courage, Patience.
We did parco this week, we talked to everyone (there weren't many people there...we maybe talked to 10) and I wasn't afraid to just talk and explain. Every one took a card or pamphlet. Nothing has come of it, but how great! no one yelled at us! and they were all Italian! ...our ward is pretty much all South American so we don't get to talk to a lot of Italians----Milano is full of Filipinos, Peruvians, and Egyptians. It's awesome!

We just adjusted our finding areas this week and I feel really good about it. Our area...areas are splits between the left side of our 1/3 of milano and the parc around our church- I know that makes no sense to you sorry!
We did it that way so that we could have parco because there isn't any parco in one area. We went to check out our new digs this week and we had a lesson in the parco with a Muslim man...he was amazing. He is searching for the truth, he's Muslim so he understands why prophets are key, he wants a Book of Mormon in Arabo, and he's great! The only issue is that because of new mission rules, we have to pass him to our anziani, so we'll do that after our next lesson so that we can say he's an official investigator.

Another one of the new rules is everyone that is GANS (YSA) age, we need to call them Sorella/Fratello lastname. It's odd put it into practice but I get it. It makes sense. We work with one GANS a lot, she's amazing! It'll be weird to have to call her Sorella instead of her first name. We've become kind of friends...is that allowed?

Hey! You won't believe this...or maybe you will. I HAVE A TAN! Not on my legs of course because we always walk and they'll never get any color....BUT! I have a cool modesty tan. I like it!
Speaking of tans...you know how I have those special cool leather ENGLISH scriptures? How the color changes and gets stronger the more you use them? It's funny how different the colors are between Book of Mormon and Bible. The Book of Mormon is a lot brighter! I want to read the Bible more, but there isn't really any time. I want to really study it and that takes a while, but I really love The New Testament.

There are so many Spanish speakers here Tanney. When you come, you won't be lost. You'll be able to talk to everyone. Even in church the Latinos mix Italian and Spanish so the Italians understand everyone anyway. You'll be perfect!

We have this investigator that has been on vacanza.
We left her with 5 envelopes full of scriptures for all the weeks she'll be gone. She's read 3 already. I've told you all about her.
She texted us the other day and she was saying:
"Oh, I really like Alma 32" and she pretty much quoted it, then she said "I can't memorize it because I'm old. Sorry!"
How cool is she??? Oh man, she's so ready!

So the way Italy is set up is a little different
They have Cartoleria for like office supplies, Farmacia for all of your creams, sprays, salt, and pharmaceuticals, and your grocery stores. It's confusing because super markets at home have everything. There is one store for every need. Here there is one store for one need.
Also here they don't have the same shampoo...they have like Garnier and stuff but they have 'flavors' that we don't have at home. Its not same but not DUN DUN DUN!
It's just funny.

Something I do to calm myself down after the day is sing in the shower. I can't remember many English hymns and I don't know the Italian hymns. When I'm lucky I can remember children's hymns and a few verses to a hymn. What really helps is singing our lullabies though. I know they aren't church approved but they remind me of being an eternal family so I think its ok.
I love you all so much- this is a sacrifice, but a gift.
I'm trying hard to develop Strength, Courage, and Patience.
My 'example' of the week...(the thing that my blessing said that I told you about was that I need to remember my examples)
My example of the week (its my new thing)....
is Nephi. I chose him because of one of the last scriptures he ever wrote...
'the Lord commanded me, and I must obey'.

Fifteen: August 14, 2013 Milano
Hi!
No time - seriously like 10 minutes!
Everything is good this week. We had a lot of appointments and lessons, and we're trying to get more. We had a few more investigators this past week but they've just slipped through our fingers. We can't find them, or they are always busy.
This week, aka yesterday, Sorella Hoppe and I decided something. Because I understand Spanish and we both speak Italian, she is going to speak to me in Spanish and I'll speak to her in Italian. Its going very well so far, at least that way we're not speaking English in public.
A volte è dificile ricordare che dobbiamo parlare in Italiano perché non so tutte le parole.

Also, there are just a lot of things we can't find here that are so common in the US.

We're trying to work on forever finding - we even talked to 2 women in a store today. We talk to people at metro stations a ton, but we could be better at it.
Sorella Hoppe and I are really good for each other. We both want to change but we don't know how to be accountable to ourselves, so we are being accountable to each other and through prayer, so we're making changes.
We have a kind of motto...we don't say it or use it ever in a situation, but it's in the back of our minds when we don't want to do something: ''Push, push, push!'' We really want to push ourselves this transfer, and we're trying our best to do so.
There are a lot of funny phrases that Italians use: for 'I dont know' you say 'boh'.
I don't have any more time, we have to go....I thought it was only 430 when we got here but it was 530.
I didn't get a chance to read your email, but I did see that you graduated!!! CONGRATULATIONS, you did it! and with a perfect GPA!

I love you all more than you know. And I cant wait to see you again - well I can wait, I'm just excited.

Fourteen: August 7, 2013 Milano
Hi di nuovo
MOST EXCITING NEWS OF THE WEEK: I finally bought a water bottle!!!
It's a 'platypus' American-made. It's like a Camelbak but without the backpack. It has a cool hose though!!! I'll send a picture.
We had a scambio yesterday and it was really cool. I was with the sister I was with last time, Sorella Santoro. She's Sorella Hoppe's trainer. She is going home this transfer. She is from Bari, Southern Italy. I had a lot of grammatical questions and she really helped me.
I couldn't feel comfortable praying in 'tu' form because I didn't get it. But I understand it now. To me, the explanation...'oh its informal' just wasn't right...I understood that as disrespectful. I get it now.
I'm getting a tan. So and steady, and it's not dark or anything, but I'm definitely darker. My feet are much better too. Some days they are swollen, some days they hurt a lot! But I''m ok.
To start the transfer the right way, we had the Anziani give us blessings. Mine was very special.

Courage
Patience
it really helped me to understand that He, my Father, knows me and hears my spoken and unspoken prayers.
I've been learning so much about the plan of Salvation and why we're here and that we are all connected. Sometimes when I'm walking down the street or we're standing in the metro, I just think..
How will this person feel as they get the opportunity to maybe hug their Saviour after this life. or I think...God loves him, God loves her. He created us all and all the things around us.

Another thing that my blessing said was that I need to remember the examples that came before me, and that Jesus has walked this path before so He knows how I feel and what I'm thinking.
Something that I thought was cool....how many examples are there before me??

I have so many examples! So one thing that I wanted to do was to take one person each day, just one, and try to act as they might in that one day so that I can develop their good qualities. Maybe it'll be better if I do it for a week, but the idea is the same.

For this transfer, we have a lot of ideas, something we are doing is planning to sing in the metro on Sunday. I'm really excited for that...and other than that, we decided we won't sit next to each other on the metro so that we'll talk to people.

It's so humid here.
I sweat all the time...I never sweat like ever, and I'm so sweaty here. It's not even that hot, the air is just so heavy. It's good though because the more people we meet, the more everything makes sense.

I don't know how horrible my grammar is or anything. I can't take the time to adjust, so correct me if I don't make sense. Also Italian grammar is way different. The sentence structure isn't like in English.
English : subject verb object
Italian: object subject verb...I think....
example:
He gave me a flower
Mi ha dato un fiore....so it would be
(to)Me he gave a flower...
It makes life interesting. ha ha, no I like it.
There are so many things that are different here.
We have a 3hr period where most shops close and people take naps or get lunch o qualcosa (or something). It's nice, thats when we do language and have lunch. but just 2 hrs obviously.
The people here also carry things in bags. They never have anything in there hands. Like if they had a book, it would be in a bag, not just in their hands.
I've just noticed little things, little difference.
Also their trash and recycle is so intense and so much smarter.

I thought about something the other day.
In a lot of photos of me...back in the day, I don't really look happy, even when I'm smiling. If you look, you can just kind of see how sad I was, you can tell.
I looked at the foto album Tanner made for me the other day (Thanks Tanney), and there is the picture is Tanner, you Mommy, and me outside of the Manhattan temple after my first time. I just looked so different. I looked happy and bright and clean, shiny, and new. You can see a difference. My life has changed so much in the past 3 years. I am completely different.
It's even changed in the last 1...the last 7 weeks even! I feel so much better.
When I got my blessing this week, it was the first time I felt that I really understood what it was, who I am, and it was the first time that I felt that I was good, that I was on the path of righteousness, that Father was pleased with me too!
It was a really nice feeling; a feeling of progress and light.
Now I can happily say, I am good. I am faithful.
I love my Father, He loves me too.
My heart is pure, my slate is clean, and my future is bright. Even as bright as the sun! ;) did you catch that? I love this Gospel!
I love you Mommy, I love you Tanney, I love you Evie! I love you Georgie! Where is Georgie??

Thirteen: July 31, 2013 Milano
I have lots to tell this week, I'll try to be quick!
Transfer 2!!! YEAH! I'm with Sorella Hoppe again, as I told you. She's amazing. We are friends, we get along, we laugh, we teach together, we try to improve together and keep each other accountable. She is very different than the other friends I've had. She doesn't like to feel so serious about everything, she likes to be happy. She realizes sometimes we can't be in control and we need to go with it and improvise. She's so smart. She has a creative mind. She draws and she thinks with her eyes almost. She can map something out perfectly in her head and then she does it. Needless to say, we draw lots of sweet cards for people!
We have a lot of goals for this transfer and we are working hard to stick to them! We're doing a lot of daily things: spiritual thoughts, daily goals, popp-bys (we have POPP charts here: principle, scripture, question, testimony) which would be a quick lesson using the popp chart for the day, and we want to light up this town with LOVE!
Something that I have been thinking about is this...my first week here, a missionary asked me what Christ-like attribute I wanted to develop...I said undeniability..
When Christ was here, to the people who were willing to listen to Him...it was undeniable that He was who He said He was, the Christ...
I want to be UNDENIABLE!

Also....I have proof that God loves Italian the most...
Doctrine & Covenants 128: 8 ...the words ''propria persona''....YEP THEY'RE ITALIAN! Just saying...

So, we went to the Duomo to have a lesson on Saturday and we were attacked, more or less ha ha. These men were selling bracelets and they pretty much threw them on our wrists and they were like 'they're free, they're free' ...we go to walk away...they weren't free. Ha ha! We'll now I have a new ''free'' bracelet!
I realized something this week too.
For the longest time, when I was 'learning' Spanish...I would say words that were Italian, because I though they were Spanish...turns out, I've known more Italian than I thought for a lot longer than I thought! YAY for spiritual gifts!

A funny thing...you know the 'lamanite haircut'. The haircut from all the Mormon movies with Lamanites, the shaved head and crown-of.-the-head ponytail....yep, tons of South Americans have them here. It's a fulfillment of heritage I guess.

Something I remembered...When I first met Sorella Dibb and first hugged her, she said something I liked
She hugged me and pulled away and said, 'that one's for your mom'
then she hugged me again and pulled away and said, 'that one's for me'
When I hugged Sorella Wolfgramm, it was similar. I just love Sorella Dibb!

Ok....so I also realized, wordly speaking, why Sisters need to stay together...We have had a lot of people come up to us and...not know that we were missionaries let's say. Nothing too creepy, but it's really important..the sight and sound rule. It's keep us safe!

I'm only telling you this next part because I didn't do it...
Sunday was really hot here....really really hot. And humid. I couldn't stay awake in church, I hadn't had much water either. It was MI SER A BLE!
I was ready to go home. I really was. My feet hurt. It was awful...then I prayed.
I prayed that I could just make it through the day. I prayed that it would rain soon, I prayed my heart out just asking Him to guide my feet and make me feel less hot. I seriously...I don't know how to explain it. I've never felt like that before...and I was just so angry. I realized I also had been (up until that point) relying on myself and my own strength to do everything.
'Lean not unto thine own understanding'...well I was.
I prayed just to be able to rely on Him more, that He might help me through the day...
We made it through the day...and the next day, it rained.
It rained all day. It rained and rained and rained. It was so fresh and cool and calm. It was amazing. Every morning since then, it has been chilly and fresh. That to me is definitely the Lord's hand. I feel that He really did save me from making a huge mistake.
...that experience ties unto another experience.
I have a lot of difficulty picturing Christ like it says in the hymn..
If the Saviour stood beside me, would I do the things I do?
Well I finally have somewhat of a concrete image now. He is a man of flesh and bones. He is glorious and dressed in white. That's all I've got, but I can picture Him beside me now and it feels right.
I was thinking the past few weeks...if I were to go home right now, would I feel satisfied with the work I've done so far. Most days the answer was no.
I think a lot of that was because my attitude wasn't right. I think I can say today that I wouldn't feel that I was finished, but I think I could say that I am pleased with what I've done so far. I wouldn't be ashamed that I didn't do enough.
